My friend, Tish, the ultimate chocolate fanatic -- whose personal favorite is Richart -- says they are about to open a downtown SF retail store in early December.
If you don't know Richart, they are among the artiest of French chocolatiers, based in Lyon. Their NY store (until now the only US boutique, although some stuff was available at Neiman Marcus) looks more like an art gallery than a chocolate shop and the slogan is "Art in Chocolate." They are masters in the sorts of unusual flavors that Michael Richiutti is trying to do... although some are just too over the top for me. They do have the best Bergamot and best rose ganache flavors fillings ever tasted though.
