Went to Central (11th and Penn) for an expense account lunch today . Wouldn't you know it, just like the reports on the Hound, although the restaurant was nearly empty (and only ever got about 1/3 full) we were ushered to the very back, to a dark table near the service station. I said as much to my companion, and the hostess said that some people found it to be a desirable location but we could change. Since it did have the advantage of privacy, we demurred. The manager came over a bit later and offered to move us. Wished I had pointed out what would be the best solution to a restaurant with different seating areas -- ask people if they have a desire to sit in a location -- say near the window or near the kitchen or in a more private spot -- when there clearly is room for the choice.
As to the food, we had the lobster burger and tuna burger and shared (I pick my expense account guests carefully). Clearly the $28 tariff for the lobster was something palatable only because of the expense account. I actually preferred the tuna burger, which was tastier. The lobster was too rich with mayo and needed a hit of citrus. Not that it was bad, it was just not as good as the tuna and a bit over the top. The waitress told us the sandwiches come with fries or salad -- rather they note that on the menu. We had a side of creamed spinach -- good, but again this wasn't turning out to be anything resembling a spa meal. Desert -- fine warm apple pie (forgot what precious name it was called) and the kit kat bar. Now, several years ago, at the Zoo food fair, Richard's booth was handing out samples of kit kat bars. Although I usually try to spread the tasting around, I must have come back, 3, 4 times. It's still as good as I remember and a healthy (in size, that is, not in any other sense of the word) helping.
Will I return? You bet. On an expense account, or my own dime for the tuna.
