I have to report excellence in the dinner last evening at Park Ave. in Stanton (3-11-08). It's a ways down Beach Blvd, but worth the little extra drive from North OC. The neighborhood is certainly not upscale, and the outside isn't anything to get excited about. It sits right in front of a mobile home park. Once inside it's nicely appointed – I think about 25 -30 tables/booths. We began the meal splitting a warm spinach salad which was delicious (they split anything). My dinner was grilled Angus rib eye steak with brushed herb butter and twice baked cheddar potato. My friend ordered 5-spiced baked salmon drizzled with hot mustard sauce, scallion brown rice and spinach. We share-tasted and each agreed our dinners were worth the moderate price. For equal quality taste, and service, other restaurants would charge much more!
The service was outstanding and everything my friend & I had was delicious. Water is brought out in a glass container – enough to fill 2 goblets. They grow many of their herbs and vegetables in the back – make all their own desserts and breads (even ice cream). Our waiter was recently recruited by the chef from the South Bay area. I asked him if he was a chef as well. He said he's been in the business all his life since his father is a caterer. We were debating about splitting a dessert, and I told my friend to choose since it was her birthday. Kevin (waiter) brought out a complimentary supberb chocolate bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. It was a delightful experience. I told Kevin Park Ave. had been recommended from my sister in NM. He asked about Chow Hound since he is quite familiar with it. He said, in the past, he has literally served someone and an hour later saw it blogged on Chow Hound.
