Review-Osaka Supermarket Park Royal West Van

Found myself in West Van Saturday so slouched by Osaka Supermarket located in the far reaches of Park Royal Mall.

You've read the promo fluff pieces in the media and know it's a venture from the company that owns T&T.

A tad larger/different configuration than the Chinatown T&T it contains much the same goods-the vaunted 'Japanese' focus is slight there are a few new Japanese products but the main body of goods is mainstream Chinese as per SOP.

The section labeled 'SE Asia' was just a collection of miscellaneous snacks my guess is that this is still a work in progress since brands like Prima Taste and others were nowhere to be found.

The seafood-live and otherwise-is familiar and again no surprises-prices carry the West Van premium there were no bargains nor should you expect to find any. When shopping one should check all prices carefully-there are some laughably overpriced goods-obvious clerical errors that somehow made their way onto shelves.

Prepared food overall was underwhelming with that popular abomination 'Brown Rice Sushi' rearing it's ugly head.

There's very little in Osaka that you won't find in any T&T or Yaohan on #3 Rd in Richmond and it's not worth anyone's while to brave the bridges for a visit.

That being said I can see this place being an excellent option for people on the North Shore-bridges being the bane of their existence.
