My review of Lucre in Berkeley

Michael Caton | Jul 22, 200301:02 PM

I used to go into this place for a beer on week nights when it was the Allston, and was excited that it had been renovated and re-opened as a lounge. I entered with a group of about 6 people, including my girlfriend. She and I sat on the large, red, throne-like chair assembled among the other boutique-looking furniture, and were told brusquely within one minute that only one person at a time was to sit there. Okay, understood - so we relocated to a couch. Again within sixty seconds, we were told - this time flat-out rudely - to get off the couch because it was expensive. At this point we left and went to another bar where we were actually allowed to sit down. It was a Saturday night and Lucre was almost totally empty. It will continue to be if the staff continues to offend customers this way. I've never written such a negative review, but I've never been forced to do so by an experience this bad at any restaurant, bar or club before.
