Good news for us midtown lunch folks -- the Trini-Pak Boyz cart at 43rd & Sixth is back and once again staffed by the same old crew. They've been gone about 2-1/2 months and were sorely missed. Mama TPB told me today that they've been having some problems with their permit for the cart, which quickly led to them getting tangled in the Gordian knot of red tape endemic to NYC's bureaucracy. In frustration, she flew home to Trinidad for a short vacation but has returned this week with a rental cart.
Her youngest son evidently has been trying to run a cart in that location for the last two weeks -- apologies to Tony, who correctly posted about their return a couple of weeks ago. I had gone by to take a look but didn't recognize any of the faces or the cart itself, and incorrectly figured someone else had taken over the corner. Should've known that the family wouldn't give up their claim so quickly. Those temporary replacement fellows weren't experienced enough though to handle the huge lunch rush efficiently, so the line wasn't moving at all. Rest assured, the genuine article has returned and is as good (and fast) as ever. Make mine a large yellow w/ extra cabbage, hot and bbq, hold the white.
