Results for Thai voting and nominee for the first lunch

The votes are in and counted. An even dozen of us voted for our top 4 Thai restaurants and we have a very clear consensus winner.

The winner is Thai Square. Thai Square received votes from 4 of us--each of us listing it as #1. Using a simple ranking scale where a vote of 1=4, 2=3,3=2, and 1=1, Thai Square got a 16.

In second is Rabieng, with a 12.

We then have a thai for third and fourth, at 8 points each:
Dungrats and Bangkok 54

This looks like a solid month of chow-lunches for us. Several of the top 4 have volunteer "sponsors" who will be responsible for setting the time and place; I'll be contacting you and you will get to make the post announcing the lunch.

Here are the other restaurants nominated, with total points:

Neisha Thai 6
Thai Luang 5
Sweet Basil 4
Sawatdee 4
Benjarong 4
Bangkock Joes 3
Crystal Thai 3
Thai Chef 3
Bangkok Garden 3
Thaiphoon 3
Sala Thai 2
Tara Thai 2
Taste of Siam 1

I wanted to also give an honorable mention to Thai Piliin, in Tysons. Thai Piliin would have had my # 1 vote for its home-style Thai cooking but for one problem. I don't think they could handle a chowlunch. They are very much a lunch-counter type operation with just a few tables. The line is often out the door at lunch time, and they serve a very earthy style of cooking (lots of strong fish and garlic flavors) I don't see much of elsewhere. (Note, there is another Thai Piliin in Falls Church, not the same place.)
