Two Restaurants in Milwaukee

On a recent trip, following the recommendation of just about everybody (including the bartender at my hotel) i ate at Three Brothers. Without a long review, i thought it was only ordinary. It seems to be one of those places that was once good, but is now just kind of coasting. It took forever to get there, too (from downtown). In a nice historic building, though.

On the other hand, and on my own, i had a great Italian meal at Osteria (1028 East Juneau. 414-291-3370). Good food, wine and service. Turned out to be about one-half block from my hotel. They were almost empty on a Friday night around Midwestern dinner time (i.e. about 6.) They deserve more clients. It would be nice in the summer when you can sit outside. It's blocks from the lake, but, again, in summer, please. I almost froze walking there. Finally, it was about twice as expensive as 3bros., but you generally get what you pay for.

Finally (really), if you're traveling I94 between Chicago and Milwaukee, check out the old 1930s (literally) roadhouse restaurant-- very sorry i can't remember the name-- about 20 minutes east of 94 near Kenosha. It's still the real thing.
