On a friends recommendation went to House on the Hill in Poway (Poway Road at Pomerado). I had been there in past incarnations, one an Italian restaurant and more recently a "Thai/fusion" effort. Very nice inside with a fireplace, and an outside dining patio for warmer weather. The menu is primarily steak and seafood, with Angus beef and whatever is freshest from the sea. Crabcakes seem to be a specialty since the new owner hails from Maryland. Everything we had was delicious, perfectly cooked fish, and ample enough portions we had to take some home in a box. Finally, there is a restaurant in Poway that doesn't remind me of a Denny's. Has anyone else tried it?
