I just ate at a new Bleecker Street restaurant, called August. It's owned by the 2 guys who own Industry/food in the East Village. My brother's the head chef (that's my disclosure statement) and I attended the Friends & Family opening, last night.
When the place opens to the public, this weekend, I think people should check it out. The food is all wood-oven-grilled, rustic European fare, and it's pretty fantastic. I have some small concerns about the fact that they won't put salt on the tables (strange new NYC restaurant trend?), but otherwise, the food is great.
Check out the grilled octopus with marinated chickpeas appetizer, the grilled rabbit with dijon mustard jus entree, and the wood-roasted chicken entree. There are many more appetizers & entrees to try, but the aforementioned were my favorites.
August is small - only 30 seats - but cozy, without being cramped. As they get into the swing of things, the pace of the restaurant will become seamless and I think it's going to be a terrific neighborhood spot.
