Rest. Week: Blu

This could have been a bit of a disaster but we had an awesome waiter and the whole meal was great. Had to wait a bit for our 7:30 reservation, then declined a seat on the patio cuz it was much less "happening" out there. Ended up at the last table in the bar area right by the main dining room, which is actually better as far as view out the windows (too bad with all those windows, you don't have much to look at). Waiter was a fun guy but not trying too hard, always makes the meal better for me. Got some fancy drinks, ordered our meals (3 choices for app and entree, 2 for dessert) and were talking enough that we didn't realize that no apps were coming. Or that bread basket of focaccia that was floating around to everyone else. I asked to get some bread then asked where the appetizers were cuz it really had been a while and how long does it take to ladle out some soup and a dish of mussels? He said we came during the big crush, and he's have the mgr. check on it, but then a girl brings out our entrees! I told her we never got the 1st course and made sure they weren't just gonna have those dishes sitting there waiting the whole time we dealt with the apps. Which were very good when they finally came, and made better cuz the waiter brought us both a glass of white wine on the house. I told him he was golden if I didn't get my 2 drink headache (I didn't need the 2nd drink but it was a nice gesture). Potato soup with some hunk 'o pork was delicious. Friend's mussels were very nice too in a great broth. She got the pasta dish which was excellent and my hanger steak was very nice, a little salty but done medium served with lots of greens (almost like a salad, also cuz the steak wasn't super hot and I wondered if my dish did indeed sit back there waiting for me but at least her pasta was hot). Could have used a starch on the plate but the bread filled that gap. I had a wonderful peach tarte tatin with a little bit of ice cream, very nice. The chocolate dessert was good too but a good fruity dessert often beats chocolate for me. So a good start to Rest. Week for the most part. I think going every other nite will keep me from overdosing the way I did last year.
