Reservations for winery tastings/tours

The countdown has begun. A month out from our Napa/Sonoma trip...

I'm looking at wineries that we hope to visit. Of course, many wineries recommend/require that you make a reservation for a tasting/tour.

I have a friend that works at a reputable wine retailer. Is there a significant benefit (e.g., better wines for tasting) of him making the reservation for us versus my placing a call/e-mail? Is a retailer-secured reservation a 'must' at any specific wineyard?

As of now, we're evaluating the following locations:

Schramsberg
Gary Farrell
Silver Oak
Robert Sinskey
Duckhorn
Joseph Phelps
Saintsbury
Merryvale
Cakebread
Caymus
PlumpJack
White Rock
Chappellet

Others to pop into:
Raymond
St. Supery (wife loves the Sav. Blanc)
Mumm

Any other vineyards that you'd highly recommend?

Thanks as always!
