Report on Taqueria Mexico in Rio Vista

China | May 31, 200610:59 AM

A slow ramble up Rio Vista's sleepy main street following a weekend of camping on the Sacramento Delta led us to this hidden find. We took our seats at a white table cloth and plastic covered table and tucked into a basket of warm freshly made tortilla chips and a tasty housemade blended salsa. Two men in cowboy hats were finishing up an early lunch and a couple of beers at the table next to us and chatting in spanish with the waitress. The carnitas super burrito (4.50) was napped with enchilada sauce and melted cheese and filled with smokey pork, sour cream, guacamole, tender rice and whole pinto beans. The tacos (1.50!) were made on small tender corn tortillas heated on the grill. Both the pollo asado and the fish tacos were nicely seasoned and grilled. The flavor of the meats perfectly balanced with cilantro, onions, salsa and the tortillas. I'm pretty sure I've never had a better taco. The horchata was tasty, as always, and served with crushed ice. We were only able to visit once, but would be anxious to try the mole, chile verde, and the many seafood dishes on a return trip. Mexican breakfast dishes would also be well worth a try. The town of rio vista is also charming with tree lined streets filling the hillsides above the river. We hope you enjoy Taqueria Mexico as much as we did.
