report back on marinated carne asada

rln | Aug 2, 2004 05:31 PM

Hi all- I am reporting back from my post several months ago on a search for marinated carne asada ready to bbq.

I learned that Carniceria Los Chavez (San Jose/ 30th) is closed right now for remodeling. I ran into the owner there and he said they will re-open in a couple months. He mentioned they may serve Italian food too.

On the second recommendation I received, I may have gone to the wrong place but New Mission Market (Mission/ 22nd) was closed-- as in it didn't look like it was in business anymore.

While there, I surprised myself and stumbled on a great option. The Lucky Pork Store! (Last year, the butcher at Bryan's sent my mom there who was in search for good pork butt for Filipino bbq. Great meat, fresh, "young" meat accd. to my mom).

We served the carne asada this weekend and everyone really liked it. Cuts were thin, marinade was perfectly citrusy. I placed the order 2 days before-- they rec. ordering at least day before so the meat can marinate overnight. 4.79/lb. They don't sell fresh tortillas, etc so had to go to La Palma for the rest of stuff.

I also found a place in San Bruno but didn't try it. People there were helpful and nice.

Valencia's Market
599 San Mateo Ave.
San Bruno

Lucky Pork Store

thanks again to those who helped my search!
