Report from Cantler's - August 2013

After not having had crabs for at least 3 years, the craving was out-of-control. Had to have crabs, and as we were heading home from the Delaware Bay, and early enough to avoid the lines, we made a beeline for Cantler's. We were surprised to find it was half empty just before 5 p.m. on a nice summer evening but even more surprised that it remained that way for the next 90 minutes.

The crabs were great but the prices - OUCH. $110 for a dozen of what they called "supers" - 7 plus inches. We had one empty and they immediately replaced it.

We were really hungry when we sat down so we ordered a small order of hush puppies. Waste of money. Absolutely terrible. Hard, dense, unappetizing shape (little logs...). I'm guessing "out of the freezer and right into the deep fryer." The sweet potato fries were very good. The corn on the cob was way over-cooked.

The really terrible thing about spending all that money on crabs is that my husband developed an allergic reaction (rash) and so no more crabs for good thing that his last crabs ever were really good, although certainly not the best we've had.
