Report on Beckta in Ottawa

Based on recommendations here and elsewhere, we tried Beckta Sunday evening during a weekend visit to Ottawa. We were very pleased with our experience there. The service was excellent from start to finish - attentive, pleasant and well informed. All of our food was excellent as well. I had the hamachi carpacio to start, and the duck "two ways" for my main. My husband had the tomato salad and then the lamb. The risotto that came with the lamb was especially good. We shared a cheese plate for dessert, which offered a generous portion of six cheeses, from very mild to very strong. The waitress recommended a white port to go with the cheese and it was a nice pairing that I wouldn't have thought to try. At approximately $180 total for the two of us (including tax and and a generous tip) it was not a cheap meal, but if you appreciate good food and service, I'd say its a nice place to go for a special occasion.
