can you replace butter with Crisco shorting in gluten free ginger bread dough.

Hi my name is Sheridan,I live in Australia,
I was wondering, can you replace butter with Crisco shortening in gluten free ginger bread dough, as I am running low on butter, and have heaps of Crisco, and do you need to melt it, I use it in my gluten free cakes and it makes them taste so much better.
