Redondo Beach and Torrance: Addi's Tandoor, Komatsu, and Joe's

Well I did not have time to get the ramen that I had so hoped for, as on my last day I chose to watch a glorious sunset from the pier instead. But I enjoyed my stay in your lovely city and I had some good chow too.

If I knew the least thing about Indian food I could speak to the authenticity or particular merits of Addi's Tandoor. I don't, but I can say that it is a good neighborhood joint, and my food was delicious. I don't know if I would chase across town to eat here but I certainly was satisfied. Nice atmosphere, the beef was perhaps a little tough but everything was flavorful and thoughtfully prepared.

Komatsu was a real experience. I got the "no sushi, no teriyaki, no combination dinners" speech at the door, which reinforced the sign on the door to that effect, and I really enjoyed the chef's-choice $45ish dinner. I might have enjoyed trying the lotus root and squash which the chef chose to serve the two Japanese women seated near me as part of their chef's-choice dinner, but whatevs. I think that someone wise in the ways of tempura might do better ordering off the menu but the special was a good value. Also the chef's special includes two mushrooms stuffed with crab and shrimp, a dish that is not on the menu. And very good, and just a joy to see. Very pretty food.

I ate breakfast Joe's a few times. I will be back, for all three meals. Very good diner food. Try the "Mad Dog Special," a cheese omelette topped with last night's special. On my lucky day it was beef stroganoff, and maybe a few pieces of the beef could have been a bit more tender, but what was I going to do, complain? I was eating a cheese omelette covered with beef stroganoff!! If something that great happens to you you are not supposed to complain.
