red rooster creamery - highlands ranch co

it was a rainy memorial day yesterday... and in my head it must have been 90 degrees because we decided to meander over to the red rooster creamery in highlands ranch for some ice cream... no, they don't have flavors like evoo & fleur de sel or strawberry balsamic gelato... just the basics, coffee, chocolate, mint chip... a few ill-conceived items like "lava flow" that is some kind of vanilla choco-chip combination with a river of red fruit running through it. but on the whole, it was a nice experience. The ice-cream is nice and dense (apparently all hand-made)... I tried the maple walnut and the dark chocolate... all things good ice cream should be. Not too sweet, rich and creamy. My DH had a coffee-choco-chip milk-shake... thick and tasty, nice coffee-ness flavor (hand scooped and mixed).

as a bonus, the staff there were very nice (local high school/college kids) at my guess... there are just a few chairs, and my family and i enjoyed watching people come and go. it was a rare slice of "local" in an increasingly chain dominated area. worth a trip...

p.s. anyone else have any recs on local, home-made ice cream... I'm all ears!
