Red Cafe -- 26th & Mission -- Hash Browns!

Frosty Melon | Feb 20, 200503:07 PM

Had an impromptu breakfast at this corner storefront place Saturday in the Mission. Bottom line: Basic, solid, well-priced breakfast food and I'll definitely go back (though it's not a "destination" place by any means). High point: almost everything comes with hash browns. I'm not talking about "home fries", those obnoxious potato chunks with no crunch. I'm talking flat, shredded fried potatoes that get all crispy and delicious. I had a bacon & avocado omelet (I almost ordered the mushroom & avocado, but was told I could just add some mushrooms to mine). It was just right -- nothing fancy at all, but hit the spot. And those hash browns. Came with a side of toast for I think less than $7. The ambience is standard for the location, and the service was very friendly. At 10 am on Saturday there were always people waiting, but not for long as turnover was speedy. It's a pretty small place but there's seating at the counter. Fun mix of clientele -- local Mission families and funky bohemian types.

The menu says their website is but it doesn't seem to be active.
