Red beans and rice run + Cajun boudain update

Hershey Bomar | Jan 18, 200605:59 PM

Yesterday I needed the fixing’s for red beans and rice. I threw my cooler in my car and headed south.

My first stop was the New Orleans Fish Market, for Camellia red beans. They also had shrimp boudin, frozen, from Zummo’s. Great.

Next stop, Phillip’s BBQ. Three slabs of ribs, dry and uncut, for my freezer.

Then Pete’s Hot links. My first time. Pete’s is across the street from Stevie’s on the Strip. You order through a window and it’s cash only. I bought beef links. They also said they had beef boudin. I’ve never heard of it so I bought some. But when I got home it was just more sausage.

Passing the Cobbler Lady on Crenshaw I stopped and bought two, one blackberry and one peach. A little soupy but delicious.

Finally, I made it to the Farmer Market at 3rd and Fairfax. I think Huntington Meats has the most beautiful ham hocks I’ve ever seen. They also had pork boudin, frozen, from Zummo’s. I bought some of that. Some andouille and some tasso.

Then I went home and soaked my beans. Today I cooked and tonight I feast.
