Recommendations for a special birthday dinner, please

Rana Mainee | Dec 20, 200311:33 PM     1

I am trying to find a good restaurant for a friend's birthday dinner. She would really like to go to Grand Cafe but thinks that they won't accomodate a party of 12-16 so is considering alternatives for a Saturday night.

Ideally, in the North Beach/Downtown/Financial District, we are looking for either Italian, French, Brasserie or Fish. Somewhere around $40 per head (excl. wine - but GOOD wine list required) and would consider a nice private room.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks.
