I was surprised by the lack of recommendations for Louisville so I thought I'd list several of my favorites:
EQUUS - 122 Sears Ave., St. Matthews. Tel: 897 9721
My favorite in Louisville. An intimate dining
experience reminiscent of a small Manhatten
restaurant catering to the local residents.
Chef Dean prepares each dish with great
attention to detail and the eclectic menue
which ranges from roast duck to calamari
is served with careful presentation. The
modest wine list seems to have something for
everyone. Price without drinks $40 and up.
LILLY'S - 1147 Bardstown Road. Tel: 451 0447
Another intimate dining experience with a
varied menu. Unusual efforts to please. I
ordered a beefeater martini with anchovy olives
and it arrived with the pimento removed from
king size olives, and replaced with full size
anchovys protruding. Deserts are spectacular!
Price range $30 and up (no drinks).
RUTH'S CHRIS STEAK HOUSE - 6100 Dutchmans Lane
Nr corner Watterson Expressway & Breckenridge
Tel: 479 0026
The local representative of this upscale chain
is located in a spectacular venue. It occupies
the top floor of a unique office building
designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The view of
the surrounding area is noteworthy. In
addition to the corn fed , USDA Prime steaks
which are custom aged and never frozen, the
menu also features live Maine lobster and other
seafood dishes. Price $35 and up (no drinks).
