Hi, just returned from a quick trip to Montreal and wanted to share our experience at two restaurants. We had read many thread from this board prior to our visit but this is what we chose:
Firstly, le Robin Square was an absolute treat. My wife and I enjoyed this family run, spot in Vieux-Montreal 520 boul St. Laurent, across from Palais du Justice). It is a simple menu, and all their ingredients are homemade and fresh. We had probably the best mac&cheese (you can add home cured ham with maple syrup...awesome) we have both ever had. The ceasar salad was also a treat with home made croutons & dressing, a soft boiled egg and on that day, chunks of braised beef. Topped it off with some craft beer from Le Trou du Diable (the honey beer was the best).
We were too late for reservations at Joe Beef and did not want to chance "no reservations" at le Vin Papillon so went to Nora Grey, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Our favourite appetizer was Seared rabbit liver, rosemary onions and marsala. For the Primi, Cappellacci, rabbit sausage and cherry tomatoes. For dessert, Ember-roasted pears with spruce sorbet. We did not have a Secondi, but the people at the table next to us all enjoyed theirs.
All in all, two wonderful experiences!
