The REAL thing: Chez Auntie Libe

Steve | Oct 10, 2003 08:36 PM

A while age, a Chowhound by the handle of 'bjd' posted about this West African place near Georgia and Military and made it sound too good to be true. I just went there for the first time, and I want to go back right away. The kind of home cooking you wish you could find everywhere. I had the Yassa chicken, which is marinated in lemon juice and sauteed with a ton of onions. There was only one dessert listed, and I got it: Like the best Creme Fraiche you could hope for with couscous mixed in. I went at an off hour, and she could hardly serve me because she was preparing a large order for the State Department. A few people wandered in for take out while I was there, and I asked each person what was their favorite thing on the menu: everyone picked something different. I look forward to seeing what else is Chow worthy.
Inside, some efforts have been made to make the place look homey, though no major surprises.

North on Georgia just before Rittenhouse. Open Mon-Thurs 11am to 9:30 or so, and until 11:30pm on Fri and Sat. Sunday open noon-8pm. But in any case, I suggest calling first. 202-291-6454
