Like others, for years I've been looking for just decent Chinese food in Astoria, LIC or Greenpoint and have had little success - this is quite enigmatic since virtually all other cuisines are well represented to say the least. My latest foray was to Shanghai Lee on Manhattan Ave in Greenpoint near Driggs. The soup and dumplings were good (nothing special) but the entree of chicken with eggplant in black bean sauce was damn good. Now this is just one visit and one dish but the fact that I would even go back is unprecedented in this ongoing quest.
It's a tad pricey for this genre but not too bad. The decor is somewhat retro, usually a bad sign for Chinese, but it's clean and the service was good.
