raw/unrefrigerated egg question

Dbird | Sep 6, 2004 12:52 AM

I recently considered ordering a caesar salad and when I asked the waiter if it was indeed a proper caesar, raw egg and all, was told the egg was briefly placed in boiling water to kill any bacteria that might be on the shell. I remembered this exchange today when I arrived home with eggs from the farmer's market that must have been sitting in 100 degree heat for at least six hours. They are now in the refrigerator but I am wondering if anyone can advise whether a brief dip in boiling water or any other measure can render them safe--or should I not worry about it?
