We had occasion to pop into this new establishment on Saturday afternoon. My 22 year old son and I were doing errands and noticed the smoker beside the building had smoke billowing out and did a quick u-turn and pulled in. We are happy we did.It is a cozy little spot, with little seperate rooms and a nice bar area right at the door. this new pub style restaurant is still owned by the same guy who has owned all the past fine dining establishments at this location (5 Strawberry Hill Road). Now however, he has turned it into a pub with the help of his daughter and son in law who own Rapscallion brewery in Sturbridge, Ma
They have several Rapscallion selections on tap, many wines by the glass and bottle all reasonably priced. We tried the Acton Ale, Honey, Porter and Rye. Most of their menu items incorporate their beer in some way as well as using local sources for ingredients, bread from nashoba for one. Once settled at the cozy bar, we sent out the "all call" to my husband, daughter and Bf as well as some neighbors we thought were free. Within an hour we had taken over a large section of the bar. The owner and his twin were taking turns keeping us full and we really appreciated it. They were very friendly and eager to share their plans for the new place. We tried the wings, two burgers, the chicken sandwich and the pumpkin fritters with cider dipping sauce. Everything was fresh, delicious and cooked to order. they accommodated all of us with sharing plates and little extras like a crock of the peppercorn sauce on one of the burgers so we could dip the fries. The menu has apps, salads, sandwiches and burgers as well as 5 or 6 entree type offerings. They were out of the cheddar ale soup (bummer) but we will be back. The prices were great too, 10-12 for sandwiches and burgers, entrees topped out at around 23.
Excellent addition to the area!!!!
Oh, and I must mention the restrooms, top notch and and warm on a rather cold day!
