Rangoon Spoon, Burmese food in Bensonhurst

Burmese food is delicious and really hard to find in New York. There used to be a couple of Burmese restaurants in Manhattan, but they've long since folded. So I was excited to try a Burmese restaurant called Together that opened a year or two ago on 65th Street in Bensonhurst, and posted about it back then. I guess that Bensonhurst is the new Myanmartown, because a new Burmese restaurant called Rangoon Spoon also recently opened there on 86th Street just west of 24th Avenue. I tried it a few days ago for lunch.

Unfortunately, they didn't have a lot of the menu items for lunch. My wife and I tried the "Pashu fried rice," which is basically a pork fried rice dish with mustard greens. The dish was fine, nothing spectacular, although the greens grew on me the more that I ate them. What was better was the green tea salad, which was flavorful with a great texture that Burmese salads, with various nuts in them, tend to have. We also ordered the Kauk Swe Thoke, a kind of pasta salad, that I liked a lot. It was complex and flavorful and just a real treat.

I look forward to checking this place out again, particularly for dinner, possibly, when I think they'll have more of their dishes available.
