Just thought I would toss a couple of line on these places that I recently visited....
Oakville Mercantile (Oakville, TX ) This place was on I37 between San Antonio & Corpus (around mile marker 60??). Have stopped in here twice now. It is an old post office turned General Store that has a kitchen in the back. One of the best old fashioned cheeseburgers ( I went with double meat bacon cheeseburger on Jalapeno Sourdough) that I have had in a long while! Although there is nothing fancy about this place, it certainly is a great option for those on I37 since most everything else on the freeway is fastfood. Burger was huge, and had great flavor without being toooooo greasy.
Bistro 88 (Austin) - Gotta say that this lunch was fantastic. Asian Fusion style. The Potstickers and Crab & Shrimp Crab Cakes were great. The Crab cakes actually were very different than your standard crab cake. Almost had a croquette (sp) consistancy. The Miso Chilean Sea Bass is what the Chef is famous for and I must say is was delicious and cooked perfectly. One of the sides on the Sea Bass was an eggplant dish (not sure if it was some special variety of eggplant or not) that I wish I could figure out how it was cooked! Very unique. My companion had the Seasame Shrimp and he said had some heat to it and wonderful flavor.Wine list was very nice as well.
Katz 21 Steakhouse (Corpus Christi) - Classic Steakhouse cuisine and done very well. Service was top notch. Wine list was exceptional.
