Thanks Chowhounds for a great week long stay in North Raleigh.

We hit a few that were suggested. We had Thai at Shabu Shaba and Sawasdee and enjoyed both.

Our favorite was Sawasdee for the food, staff and small cozy atmosphere. The Tom Yum soup was hot as hell and great!! We shared vegetarian panang and pad thai...probably the best we have had in our travels...encluding Bangkok.

We went to Shabu Shaba with a group and it was a huge hit with most everyone in our party. The two menus (Japanese and Thai) are great and everyone enjoyed the meal. In my opinion, the menus are interesting and food very good. On this evening our service was sub-par. Our waiter managed to spill an entire pot of soy sauce over our table (and one of our dining companions) forcing us to move tables...which was a good thing as we had a crying baby next to us.

We hit Irregardless Cafe one night and loved it. It was one of my favorite dining spots when I lived in Raleigh 18 or so years ago. Still going strong. I loved the sound of the Foscoe Philharmonic in the backround!

As I posted weeks ago, I was looking for vegetarian friendly spots for lunch and dinner in, or near, north Raliegh. We went to Whole Foods on Wade Ave. the first day we arrived in Raleigh and pretty much made that "home base" for stocking up our hotel suite for breakfast and lunch. We have never been to a Whole Foods chain and absolutely fell in love!! The breakfast and lunch buffet is out of this world with 'good for you' foods. The take out deli stocked up our room for most lunches. I loved seeing the folks having morning coffee at the outside tables with their dogs snoozing at their feet. My vision of living in heaven is to be within walking distance to a Whole Food market at never cook again.
