Rainy Night Champurrado

Melanie Wong | May 20, 2002 03:12 AM

Atole and champurrado have disappeared from the offerings of many of the local taco trucks as the weather has warmed. But with tonight's chill and rain, I swung by Sebastopol Rd. hoping that someone might have the hot corn-based drinks for sale.

Delicias Elenitas was doing a brisk business in champurrado for $1. Everyone eating at the picnic tables was cradling a warm styro cupful. The version here is has just a little chocolate and lots of exotic spice, including a floral note that I can't quite place.

With the wet weather forecast this week, this might be one more chance to try these warming drinks until the rains return in the fall.
