Rainy day food - Japanese curry at E&E Cafe

I think Japanese curry must be the ideal rainy-day food. It is warm and comforting, without being all cheesy, which can be a problem if you are recovering from a cold.

I like E&E Cafe at the corner of Reseda & Nordhoff in the strip mall with California Chicken Cafe and Blockbuster. It is upstairs next to Lollicup Boba cafe. It is small and cozy and clean, with a very friendly staff.

They serve their curry in a big handthrown bowl with a plate of white rice. You can get it spicy on a 0-7 or more scale (they charge extra for over 7 and you have to sign a waiver...ok I'm joking about the waiver). It comes with a tray of 6 condiments in all different styles..sweet, salty, oniony, crispy, chewy.

It is served at lunch with a green salad with a light soy-based dressing. It runs from $5 to $9 depending on what kind of veg, tofu or meat you get with it.

They make a bunch of different teas and fancy desserts - green tea cake, creme caramel, meringue tart. Iced tea is served with a little pitcher of simple syrup, bless their souls.
