I'm taking my cousin to dinner tonight. He just lost his father and wants to talk, so he requested that we go someplace quiet. I don't want anything to fancy either. Just a causal place with good food, not a lot of noise, and where we can chat without getting pressured to leave as soon as we put down our forks.
He's not an adventurous eater -- the usual would be burgers or nachos (cheese only). I managed to get him to go to Gochi, the Japanese charcoal grilling place in Encino, the last time we had dinner together and, though he liked it, that was pushing the boundaries for him. So Thai, Japanese, and Indian are all out.
