Another Quick Report: Big Star

Wow! In my short break on my trip to Chicago, I tried to go to Silver Palm. But, it was closed. Instead, I went to Big Star. I know there are been some concerns about the service here, but, FWIW, mine was excellent. Service with a smile.

One fundamental way that I judge a restaurant is: How much would I want this restaurant to be a block from my home? Big Star scores extremely high by that criterion. I can think of few restaurants I would like to be down the street from me.

$2 and $3 tacos of beautifully cooked pork and lamb. Carefully selected liquors and beers. Well-conceived cocktails. And, a kid-friendly, laid back atmosphere.

But, back to the point. The food. One taco was braised lamb shoulder. Fantastic. The other was crispy pork belly. Maybe even better than the lamb.

$7 strikes me as very reasonable for the cocktails, all of which reflect attention to detail.

I am a big fan, as you can tell.

You all in Chicago are lucky to have this.
