quick chow dash in allston last saturday

gourmaniac | Feb 8, 201112:00 PM

I had 30 min to kill in on Harvard Ave Saturday morning and hit three places that i've seen on this site but hadn;t tried. I tried the coconut bun at Yi Soon Bakery (on Brighton Ave) and it was the best I've had here with a HUGE amount of filling in a good yeasty roll. The cabbage turnover at Berzeka was disappointing. It was too large with not a lot of taste to the cabbage and not nearly as good as the smaller version at Bazaar. I finally made it to Garlic and Lemons and had the beef and lamb sharma pita rollup. I liked the housemade stack of meat on the vertical rotisserie. It wasn't bad but the meat had a mushy texture and the spicing wasn't very interesting (lebanese vs turkish?). I liked the speed dial experience and low cost of the dash. I also appreciate that Allston is one of the few neighborhoods that I could have done this in 30 min, but nothing really wowed me.
