Quick Bill's Report

Jeni Bean (Formerly Richie Richmond) | May 20, 2005 11:54 PM

Just got back from having a burger at Bill's on 24th and Clement in the Richmond District. I think I would give it a solid B (leaning towards the B+ for funky atmosphere). What I liked about it is it hit the craving I was having which was for a classic burger. No frills, no fancy sauce, no special bun.

I ordered the Bill's Classic as I wanted to taste the beef. They do, however, have about 25 variations of burgers with different sauces, cheeses, veg. and meat combinations. I ordered the burger medium rare and it came out *almost* perfect. Maybe an extra 10 seconds too long on one side. The meat was juicy and just needed a hit of salt to pep it up. Bun was standard, as were the iceberg lettuce, pickle and tomato. The red onion on the other hand was perfect. One of the best pieces of raw onion I have had in years. Not at all hot, just a sweet and mild taste that really lent itself to the flavor of the burger.

Oh, I also ordered my fries well done. They were still softer than I like but were better than the ones that were ordered regular.

My boyfriend got the "Giants Burger" which had avocado, bacon and cheddar. It was good, but the burger got lost in all the mess (literally!) He also had an "all choc" shake which he really liked. I am not a milk shake connoisseur but I thought it was right nice too.

So there is a report on Bill's. A good honest hamburger, perfect neighborhood spot.
