I always enjoy Minar Palace. I think their food is fresh, well-priced and, from what I can tell, authentic. But, something has always bothered me and no one has been able to give me a satisfactory explanation. What is the purpose of the cabbage salad and yogurt sauce that they give you regardless of what you order?
First, the cabbage salad. I think that it adds nothing to the meal. The cabbage portion is usually wilted and bland and topped with a dollop of what appears to be a mint chutney. Is this just supposed to be a side dish? Is it to be eaten with the meal or as an appetizer like Americans have a salad?
Second, the yogurt sauce. It appears to be raita, but I thought that raita was composed of cucumbers only. This has carrots and other vegetables also. It has been explained to me that raita is to be eaten with the main dish to "cool down" the palate. But, the food there is not really that hot. Is the yogurt to be eaten with the cabbage? Is it to be combined with the meal? Is it to be eaten after the meal?
I know that I can invent my own way of doing things, but I would like to know the proper protocol so as to enhance my dining experience.
