Pumpkin Pie Spices: Do I toast them or not?

I keep on reading cookbooks in which the authors recommend toasting your whole spices and then grinding them. I have never heard of anyone toasting pumpkin pie spices, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, mace, or allspice. I am positive that I will NOT perform this experiment for Thanksgiving (a bad time to experiment), but I am curious. Has anyone tried this?
