I've been to Puebla before and will be returning for another trip soon. Last time we didn't make it out of the centro historico, but this time we'll have a car and want to make a day trip or two to the country.
Where can I find the best moles? Reports on Meson Sacristia recently are lukewarm, but there doesn't seem to be much consensus on where to find the best mole if it isn't at meson sacristia.
I've also seen recs for El Camino, but a few years ago the food was fine but not great--it didn't seem to have a personal touch. We'd much rather eat in fantastic holes in the wall that we wander into based on how crowded they are and how they smell, and the market, but are there other gems in the old town that aren't obvious?
What about the rest of Puebla City? It's got 2 million people, but the old town is only ~20 x 20 blocks--there must be much more that we missed last time. Any ideas?
Favorites outside the city center?
We like everything from street food to fine dining, and I'm resigned to stomache trouble, so there's really nothing we won't consider as long as the food is delicious.
