PUBLIC Review

Just wanted to let everyone know that we had such a wonderful time at Public last night.

First off, we got into a lot of traffic heading downtown and were over a half hour late...we called to let them know and they were so gracious. In fact, the entire staff was pleasant and smiling the entire night.

We were asked where we wanted to sit and chose a table as close to the open porch-like area as possible. The gorgeous evening certainly didn't hurt the ambiance.

Drinks were great...a not too sweet (by our waitress's suggestion) Ginger Cosmo and Passionfruit Mojito.

We started with the barely seared kangaroo appetizer which was served with falafal and onion licorice marmalade...FABULOUS. We also had a really nice appetizer of cured wild boar served with crostinis, caper berries, oil cured olives and very aged, almost blue goat cheese.

For entrees I had a luscious braised lamb shank with a watermelon radish salad and a smoked tongue empanada. Interesting and decadent. My friend had the excellent duck dish with plantain-chorizo mash.

Although we should have paired a red with all of these selections...the weather was saying 'white' so our waitress suggested a really interesting, full, bodied, complex riesling that made us very happy.

We couldn't have had a better time...the food was amazing and the staff was great. The whole place has such a laid back, unpretentious atmostphere. Really a pleasure.
