Provine's

Went to a wedding last weekend spent the night at a hotel and went to a Sunday morning breakfast with the wedding party and a couple friends......
Provine's is on the corner of Jefferson & 11th (just a couple blocks West of Harold & Belle's)located in a pretty much non-descript white building with just a hand painted sign - and is a soulfood restaurant, bar, nightclub/karaoke bar.
Our party of 18 walked in and what first struck me was the music playing.....it sounded live......I turned to my left and it was live....there was a guy playing one of those keyboards that allows for one person to be one-man band.....and a woman dressed to the nines belting it out in a Macy Gray style at 10:30 in the morning to a crowd of 2 guys watching a game at a table and an old codger at the bar......
The decor looks like a 70's garage that someone fixed up so they could hang out and party on the weekends....dark wood paneling, mixed up tables & chairs etc.....
They have many soulfood-ish type items and specials - catfish, red beans & rice, collard greens, neckbones, chicken & sauce (which I had and was a killer thick gravy over 4 pcs. of baked chicken and grits) gumbo, bbq items, fried chicken, porkchop & eggs etc etc.......it seems like not all items are available all the time - but I could be wrong...
For Sunday mornings comp. unlimited champagne is included with all orders...
I sampled some of the others items like the fried catfish which was crunchy, not greasy and had the perfect spiciness level.......the porkchops were thick and juicy....the fried chicken reminded me of GoldenBird but less greasy.......the sides like collard greens, black-eyed peas and the red beans & rice were agreeable to my taste.......
The service was a little slow either because they had only one waitress.....
We were there about 2 hours as other smaller parties came and went.....
Prices were very reasonable for the amount of food we got......all items I noticed were under $10.00 with most being in the 5.95 - 7.95 range....
Beer & wine also available...
