Went with people for a lab dinner last night. Was somewhat disappointed. First, the attitude mentioned in previous posts was apparent. We ordered 2 bottles of wine and looked at the menus. The waitress came over and snapped "are you guys ever going to order anything or are you just going to take up table space all night?" Keep in mind, this was her second approach (we ordered wine, this was the second time she came back.
Now, the food. Appetizers were ok- winter squash bisque with porcini was excellent, though we were given tiny portions. The heirloom tomato salad was underripe and bland. We got glared at when we asked for butter or sauce to go with the bread.
Entrees-the steaks (chili-cilantro rub, with spicy cabbage and greens) were massive off. One person order medium- it came bloody. Another persons was charred.
The fish was of good quality, though served in a watery herb sauce that killed the freshness.
The wild mushroom ragout proved lackluster as well- no flavour, no sauce, and miniscule portions. I know it was a mix of exotic mushrooms, but for 16$, more than 6 ounces of mushrooms (the only thing on the plate save toast) would be appreciated.
Desserts were passable- a maple custard, nut and marscapone tart, and a sour cream chocolate cake. The Russian tea was served lukewarm. For 385$, I'm glad it wasnt my dime, and wish we had gone elsewhere.
