I need a bit of insight from you knowledgeable chowhounds out there. The dictionary definition of "prosciutto" is "ham". This being the case, I have seen discussions (on this site) of "duck" prosciutto, "goose" prosciutto, "beef" prosciutto, etc., etc. ----- how can this be? Are we talking about "duck ham", "goose ham", etc.?Has the definition of prosciutto been altered to mean any type of meat that is air-dried? If so, can we have "goat" prosciutto or "lamb" prosciutto? If the definition has not been altered, are we just talking about marketing? Some edification ----- please.
