A product called "gluten bread"

I used to babysit for a woman (this would have been early 1960s) who always had gluten bread in her refrigerator. The package said "gluten bread" on the wrapper, and it was very light brown and very tasty, I could tell it was different than what I got at home, white Wonder bread. It was soft and delicious. Am I completely wrong about this, was there ever such a thing? She never mentioned it was for health reasons, or an intolerance of any kind. She said she just bought/sought it out for the flavor.
Am I just remembering wrong? I know regular bread has gluten, but is it ever *added* to create "gluten bread"?
