Prince Cafe - 19th and Geary, SF - Report

I was in the Richmond this evening, and randomly chose to eat at Prince Cafe. I rarely get out to the Richmond, and when I do, I am so excited and happily overwhelmed by the Chinese food options that I tend to forget everything I've read, even though I always wish I could remember. I need to get one of those cell phones w/ internet so I can access chowhound anywhere....someday...

Anyway, I ordered the shrimp wonton noodle soup, which in retrospect probably isn't the greatest dish at Prince Cafe. However, I had no idea what *was* the best thing to order, and the menu is quite varied. It's very diner-like, definitely the type of restaurant that doesn't exist in Massachusetts (as far as I know), though I wish it did. Baked pastas, russian borsht, noodle soups, udon, bento boxes, chinese stir fries, etc, etc. The shrimp wonton noodle soup was not bad at all. In fact, the 6 wontons were large, delicate and very good with a nice shrimp and pork filling. No whole shrimps, but large enough pieces to bite into that nice texture sometimes. Broth was unexciting, as were the thin egg noodles, as were the pale vegetables (napa cabbage? other things? lettuce?).

After eating this I still wasn't full, and anticipating a desire for leftovers tomorrow at lunch, ordered another dish: "bean cake w/ mixed vegetables" This consisted of fried tofu puffs, mushrooms and a few other vegetables with a mild brown sauce. Good, but nothing very exciting.

I still haven't done any searches on Prince Cafe on chowhound (though I'm about to). What do other people order here?

There were several other people dining tonight, though it was hard to tell what people had. A couple nearby had a casserole type dish w/ a crusty top, and also had what looked like the spicy eggplant.

Service was very nice, and I got complimentary orange jello in a small metal cup for dessert!

Prince Cafe is on Geary Blvd. (betw 19th Av and 18th av, i believe)
