Prime Steaks - a place you can actually get into

I've found it a bawl to get into most steakhouses. In most, BLT aside, you put up with abusive treatment in the expectation of landing some Kansas City Prime.

For better or worse the Palm, Sparks and a half dozen infinitely repeated others hog the steakhouse headlines. But a place that is as good as Strip House (same neighborhood) and far better than say Smith & Wollenski or Michael Jordans and far more civilized is virtually unknown to most folk. So let me let you in on a secret, The Knickerbocker at 9th and University.

Over the years and after dozens of 24 oz prime porterhouses this is where I've settled for my tri-weekly steak fix (if a hurricane threatens I do go to Lugers because that's the only time you can get in last minute). They play jazz late, by steakhouse standards the service is good and that porterhouse is consistently excellent...and you don't feel you've been an object of obuse.

Is it the best ? No, but it's not far off.
