I posted recently on what I assumed to be price pressure on UC Berkeley-area Indian buffets exerted by the institution of Curry in Hurry's decent $4.99 array. I returned to CIH today after a couple of weeks away and found the buffet now priced at $5.99 ... w/out the free soda proffered at that price point by nearby competitor Khana Peena. "It wasn't paying for the food costs," the everpresent owner told me when I laid down my sixspot. "It was kind of an introductory special." I told him I understood, and indeed I did and do ... but since the food at CIH, while honest, is no better than KP's, and KP is much closer to the office -- well, I may not be squeezing in and out of those horrid Burger King-legacy booths at CIH quite as often in the months to come.
