Prezza Update/Via Matta

Talking about Prezza the other night at the ChowDinner made me hungry, so we went last night. Delicious as always. For an appetizer, we had the Crispy Zucchini flowers with tomato, pancetta and polenta. The light and crispy flowers along with the creamy polenta was a great combination of flavors and textures. For entrees, I had one of my favorite all-time dishes at Prezza -- the Corn Raviolini with Rock Shrimp and Pancetta. If you have never been to Prezza, go now and be sure to order that (it can be ordered as an appetizer or entree). Perfectly cooked, tender pasta pillows with sweet rock shrimp and that fresh corn flavor - I love that dish. E had his 'usual' - the huge grilled veal chop which is always melt-in-your mouth tender and juicy. Our dessert - blueberry pie with mascarpone ice cream (of course we asked for an extra scoop of that!).

I also tried Via Matta last week and really liked it. Beautiful room, excellent service, and a nice meal. They also have an outdoor area that looked very inviting (too hot when we were there to sit outside). The crispy eggplant appetizer was very good - a thick slice of eggplant in a greaseless, crisp breading with tomatoes and shavings of parmiggano regianno. Because of a Chowhound who wasn't impressed with the entrees (earlier discussion posted somewhere below), we stuck to the pastas. I had a tasty dish of tagliatelle with lobster and peas but liked E's choice more - Fedelini (thin spaghetti) with mahogany clams, tomato, and parsley. The waitress suggested a wine that was perfect with the brininess (is that a word?) of the clams - a Bisson Marea. They also had a nice cocktail list. I tried the Lime Basil Gimlet - a very refreshing vodka drink with lots of fresh basil. My favorite though was a vodka, Orangina, and ? orange liqueur combination.
