How to use powdered isinglass in cooking??

Does anyone know how to use powdered isinglass for cooking, rather than for brewing? I'm looking to recreate an early recipe that calls for an ounce of dried insinglass dissolved, but all I could find was powdered isinglass, and indications for homebrewing and winemaking aren't applicable.

Does anyone know how to use isinglass for cooking, how much should be dissolved per cup of water to create a jelly-like consistency, and whether or not it should just be dissolved, or should be cooked or boiled in the water?
